White or Just Plain White?

Since adding some color to my bedroom, I've been noticing a lot of posting going on about white rooms. Maybe I should have just kept it simple, and had an all white room. I've been told to 1) add more pillows and 2) add more color to my room, even after the re-do. So why am I suddenly drawn to these rooms and their simplicity...When does white go from design statement, to just being plain white?
