I'm planning on doing a little spring cleaning/revamping of the apartment. This will give me a chance to find some things I'll need when I live on my own. So it's time for some end tables. But I'm wondering how much these should match your coffee table. I found these for $50 on Craigslist, pretty great huh?
Ooph my Craigslist addiction has started again. I thought I had kicked my habit of perusing this site for hours in search of vintage furniture I can't afford, and might not even need, but no, I'm back at it. How beautiful is this desk? For $200...those handles...those legs...I love it!
This chair was listed under "Yellow mustard comfy" on Craigslist. I was doing a search for mid-century bedside tables, and came across this little guy. I saw it and it made me go "awww..." for some reason. The title made it sound like a cute little chair waiting to be adopted. Too bad it's so ugly. If you're in Chi-town and ready to adopt though, it's only $65!
Ok, back to studying...
I had a major detour today trying to get to the South Side of Chicago that involved riding my bike for half an hour, and stopping at every L stop along the way to see if it was open. Ugh. But I did end up getting on the train right by this place Luminaire which I'm going to have to go into at some point. Their window displays are awesome too, with Philip Starcke and Eames chairs all stacked up together.
I had to check out EQ3 which Holly from Decor8 posted on today. I was slightly disappointed with the prices having geared up for them to be within my range. But I did get a new idea while browsing their site. I have this corner in my room that I'd like to use for "dressing" (aka throwing clothes onto when I'm too lazy to store them). How cute is this little guy?
This feels strange to say but I am a dresser addict. I ended up buying new drawer pulls for my antique dresser which made it look more modern. (pictures when my camera is returned from New York) But I can't stop perusing Craigslist for vintage dressers! The one above is $50 and comes with legs. If you're in Chicago, it's located in Carol Stream. Maybe I should start some sort of online site specifically for posting my favorite finds after searching for things I don't really need...The one below is only $75.
I just bought this chair from Ikea today. I'm pretty happy with it and will post pictures of it at my desk when my camera arrives back from New York. I'm thinking about getting the zebra pillow to put on it. Pillow is from Kanibal home via Designsponge.
I took a spin through my parent's attic last night to see if they had a chair I could use as my desk chair. I didn't have any luck finding a chair, but I did find an awesome coffee table and a vintagey chair/stepstool from my childhood.
The table started off with a whole lot of blue paint on it which my Dad sanded off. We went out and bought a nice stain to go on top. Here's an action shot...
The stepstool needed a new coat of paint, so we picked up some oil-based red paint. I think I might buy some black paint too to fix up the little pull out steps.
All in all some pretty nice finds. Thanks Mom and Dad!
One more shot I'm giving to this whole dresser situation. I've decided on something taller and darker. This could be possible living room furniture too if I end up keeping it for awhile. It's $35 and possibly mine on Sunday. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Plus, I have no spending money. Turns out I owe New York State money after taxes instead of vice versa. Boo.
I arrived back in Chicago today after some camping in New Jersey. It was a really great time, and much more dry than I expected. We grilled over a fire, ate fresh peaches from an award winning peach stand, and saw more stars than I've seen in years. I would post pictures if I hadn't left my camera in New York :(
So I'm back and thinking about desk chairs. These 3 are pretty similar and from 3 different places. Craigslist a supposedly Eames chair, C2b Milan chair, and Ikea Gilbert chair.
I like the simplicity of these desk chairs, reminiscent of school desk chairs. I'd love to have one and keep a pretty pillow on it as cushion.
Pillows from Etsy: Kitchniche, Karen Hiltondesigns, Joom
Just got back from a thrift store over on Lincoln and Halsted in Chicago. Children's Memorial White Elephant or something like that. Look what I found peaking through a bunch of ugly stuff! Too bad it's 4 inches too long...I'm getting so frustrated I just might give up on my dresser search.
-I had my own truck
-Craigslist wasn't proving to be so shady
-I lived alone and didn't have anyone to tell me they didn't like my style
**$100 on Chicago Craigslist right now.
Apparently the man selling this dresser decided to sell it to someone else who wanted to buy it with the matching headboard. I am pretty disappointed. AND the people buying my shelves canceled on me. Craigslist really isn't workingout to be as wonderful as I was making it seem so beware!
I am pretty excited, I just found a vintage dresser for $35 on Craigslist, that is exactly what I've been looking for!! What do you think? It would fit perfectly beside my bed, and go straight to the wall. Cross your fingers it's still available!
I know I'm like the Expedit's #1 fan, but look at how Lorena and Esteban (from At's house tour) use the billy bookcase and make it look cool. They put them up next to each other, with shelf heights varying, in their office and even in their kitchen! Currently there are 5 black billy bookcases on my deck outside left from the previous owner of my apartment. I'd love to find a great way like this to incorporate them in our place.
...and so has she. Opened up her own bag of catnip on the table tonight. I promise, only maybe one post a month on the cat. I can't help it, I've become a crazy cat lady. At least this cat loves the dining room table as much as I do. That makes it 3:1 voting in favor of keeping it if I'm including all 3 roommates + Nerms.
I've been super busy running around buying new stuff for my place. I'm hoping for things to die down by end of week so I can catch up on all my favorites!
So this is pretty sweet, I found this table in the hall outside of my new apartment. The Ikea table my roommates had was too small for the room, so I moved it into the kitchen where it fits in better. How cool is this table? The sides fold in to make it more of a sideboard if needed. I'm going to keep my eyes open for chairs that will match.
Could this desk fit in that closet? If I lived there already I'd be in the closet right now with a measuring tape! I'm really wanting to do something like the images below for when I start school, considering I'll be studying so much and might want to do so in a quiet place.Apparently that bamboo chair is very popular for closet/desks. If the West Elm desk doesn't fit, maybe I'll be gutsy and build my own!
