Headed to Chicago one last time before I actually move there, which feels weird. I won't be blogging while I'm out there so goodbye for now. I might take a longer break too actually and return in a week or so. I don't write about my personal life often, but I've got some things going on that I need to sort out and am feeling really drained emotionally. To top it off I think my job might be punishing me for leaving in July or something and work has been about fifteen times more painful than it ever was. Then again, that all could be in my head.
I'll leave you though with a really good CD (do people us that word anymore? Is that now like a record? I did use the term "left a message on their machine" the other day when I was calling a cellphone, I think I'm going back in time) Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens. The song "Chicago" is really good, the fast version really pumps me up, while the a cappella version is mildly depressing, but still a great song. It was in Little Miss Sunshine.
Found this item recently just surfing online. Makes me laugh. If I ever have a place big enough for a room-size joke...
However Nerms has problems getting out of the slippery bathtub if she accidentally ends up in there, she might really have a problem with this one.
Tonight I attempted to create a friend (well 2 friends) for my man playing a bass. I must need more practice because every artistic venture I've had lately is short of what I envision it to be when I start. Anyways, I figured I'd put these two guys up here with their flowers. Anyone got a tip on how to draw feet? :)

Let's see if I can get my thoughts organized around what I'd like my workspace to look like in my new apartment. I've got plenty of ideas, and don't even know where to begin. So here are the basic two ways I could go:
Idea #1:
A colorful desk, painted. I could either use the one I have and paint it, or buy something new and paint it. I have the desk pictured below, but it is white with metal sides. Someone recommended painting it turquoise when I blogged about this desk before, and I love that idea.
I found the desk below at Maine Cottage, and am thinking about possibly buying a new Ikea desk, and painting it to resemble this one, in turquoise :)

Or maybe I would just leave the wood how it is, and paint a small table to put below it like in this picture. I LOVE the way this looks. (from Domino)
Here's my second idea. Maybe I should just buy a nice desk from craigslist or something. I've been wanting to get my hands on a mid century modern dresser, but they are all over my price range. Maybe I could compromise with myself and buy a desk, which are usually priced lower than dressers. Here's a good one. Isn't it so cool?? I think it was priced close to $200.
I will have to see what kind of space I have in my new apartment of course first, but I can't help thinking about what it's all going to look like.
I finally bought a coffee maker today thinking I could save money and plastic by making my own iced coffee every morning. Even bought those little sugar packets so I could put my two sugars in just like I like. I was picturing something like this...
But no.
Nerms (my cat) alerted me to the hazard taking place in my kitchen by hissing at the machine as the coffee pot cracked, bubbled, and spat out coffee grinds. Maybe it wasn't meant to be.
I've written before about my lack of real furniture. Well, today I became a little obsessed with finding myself a mid century modern dresser, and was marveling at the look of real wood, more specifically teak. So when I was at the hardware store on my way home buying cat litter (my roommate and I call this hardware store the "jackpot" because they literally sell everything from shampoo to house paint) I ended up buying some stick on wood. Yep, a wrapping paper size roll of paper made to look like wood. So? What do you think??
This "counter" is a shelf that was stained and dirty that I'd flipped on its side for extra kitchen storage. Now the stains are covered up and it looks like wood...well, sort of. This stuff might be kind of addictive, I'm ready to go and cover all of my fake furniture in it!
