DC for the Summer

So I thought I would share...I was offered a summer internship in DC with an organization I really really wanted to work for. I will be there for 2 months from June to August, but know absolutely nothing about the area. What are the up and coming neighborhoods to live in? Where are the fun areas to shop? What restaurants are good?
Where should I avoid when wandering around trying to find all of things mentioned above?

Blog's 1st Birthday

I just realized that it's been one year exactly since my first post. I started this blog as a creative outlet and as a way to store the ideas I had about decorating, fashion, and cooking. Thanks to everyone who has been reading and commenting. Your thoughts mean a lot to me!

Totally random, but if you had a week like mine you might need a little giggle.

Stuff on My Cat: Nerms

I haven't posted in a long time and feel sort of silly posting this after my absence. But I sent in a picture of Nerms over the summer to StuffonMyCat.com and she was finally posted on the 17th. Not design-related, but a fun site to check out if you're a crazy cat lady like myself.

Finals Done!

Yesterday I took my last final of the quarter. I'm now on a holiday for the entire month and couldn't be happier. I can't wait to do some blog-catching up and channeling my old self with a functioning right-brain! Here is a photo of where I've been spending most of my time, on campus. Pretty huh? See you all tomorrow.

Quick Hello

Hello blogworld. It's been awhile. I just wanted to say hello and apologize for being mia these past few weeks. Laissezfaire was kind of enough to add me to her "blogs to watch" section, and I really wish I had some new stuff to post about. In case you're wondering, my life has been fairly routine. So routine in fact, here is my latest meal, just about as boring as they come.I'd like to be back in to the blogging shortly. After my finals are over I will return!! I really do miss you all!

Econ Schmeecon

I'm feeling sad lately because my entire life has been taken over my economics, statistics and game theory. Interesting as it may be, I'm losing touch with my artsy side. I just flickr-googled the word "econ", how lame. Someone had taken a picture of their econ homework. They were probably in a similar state of mind to where I'm at right now.

Would you believe it if I told you I understand what's written on this page?
This could make a cute pillow case I think...
Back after mid-terms. In the meantime I'm enjoying All Things Ordinary, Abstract the Day, and Found now Home.

Equilibrium

It took a looong time for the cat fights to settle down. Here was Nerms before:And now everyone has found a heating vent to call their own. Life is good. And my visitor leaves tomorrow. Goodbye Cassidy. It's too bad you and Nerms didn't become better friends...

Yellow Mustard Comfy

This chair was listed under "Yellow mustard comfy" on Craigslist. I was doing a search for mid-century bedside tables, and came across this little guy. I saw it and it made me go "awww..." for some reason. The title made it sound like a cute little chair waiting to be adopted. Too bad it's so ugly. If you're in Chi-town and ready to adopt though, it's only $65!

Ok, back to studying...

Shopsin's General Store via Design Pumpa

A blog that has recently linked to me, Design Pumpa, has some interesting finds. It is written in Dutch perhaps? But I love looking at the photos. I found Shopsin's General Store through Design Pumpa. And they have these quirky items, and more. The website has an interesting design and layout as well.

I really love bad jokes with ridiculously obvious puns. These make me laugh.

Happy Friday

Today REALLY felt like fall. I know I keep saying that. Nerms was feeling the chill when I took my air conditioner out of the window and put the screen in. She's never felt the wind before, being from nyc and all. The sunset looked really pretty off of my back porch too. Have a good weekend!

Blue

I've been missing New York at the weirdest moments, like at night while studying algebra :) I looked up "homesickness cures" on a whim and some guy's #5 cure was to blog about it, how funny is that? So I'm taking my shot at it. I wish all of the people I care about most lived in the same state. Or even a few hours drive away would be nice. A lot of people (like Jess, and Michelle) have been moving lately, I'd be interested to know what you're doing to make the new place feel like "home".

Tag Encore

Julie from BelleVivir tagged me and I'm flattered. I was recently tagged, but decided I'd change this up a little as opposed to opting out, and put out just a few things that I'm either currently loving if that's ok :) Joy from OhJoy! has been doing these "currently loving" series that are really fun. True, most of blogging is describing the things we're currently loving, so I'll try to make these slightly different.

-I have lived in and have been loving this dress ALL summer. It is perfect for every occasion, with a belt or even a satin blue ribbon I've been tying around the waist.
-I am loving my campus! It is beautiful and so "campusy" which is totally different than going to college in NYC.-I am always loving Nerms. I take pictures of her doing just about anything. It's tempting not to start a blog about her.-I love reading blogs about other people's family lives. Like Sweet-Juniper. It feels kind of weird to know that much about strangers, but I can't help but keep reading. Does anyone have blogs they read like that?

2 or 3

I've been recently introduced to many new-ish blogs. I love finding new "friends", it reminds me of having pen-pals as a kid but much more instantaneous and you can have so many friends at one time. Here's one I just found today that I'm loving, 2 or 3 things I know. A recent designschool? graduate looking for a job bouncing back and forth from NYC to San Francisco (can't be all that bad!). A few pictures from her site that I'm loving.

All My Bags Are Packed...

...but is she ready to go? Nerms, I mean. She is hard to motivate in the morning. I packed all of my pillows, but one, for the movers who came last Saturday. Silly me, forgetting one for myself :)

False Beauty

Since this blog is about making things look nice, I thought I would post this Dove ad which is just fascinating to watch. I've always liked Dove products, but now I'm growing fond of their commercials as well :)

The World in Pictures

This is semi-off topic, but on Andrew Sullivan's blog, the Daily Dish, he has this feature "World from My Window". You can click around all over the world and see different views from people's homes. A good time-waster, but there is some pretty works of photography on here as well.

Moving

That is not my cat, but this is what my apartment looked like last night and the reason why I might not be on the blog for a day or so. I left my camera at a friend's, otherwise I would have posted MY cat investigating the boxes because she was so funny about it all and very curious. I had to reverse pack, and keep out only the things I need for 1 week, and pack everything else up for my movers tomorrow. One more week in NYC and then I'll be a Chicagoan again.

More on more normal things later...

Tag

Michelle from Armas Design tagged me. Hm, never been tagged before. The rules are to expose 7 dirty secrets, but I think I'll stick to just regular secrets about myself and then tag 7 other unsuspecting bloggers. (Do I even know 7 other bloggers well enough to tag them?)

Here it goes.

1. My favorite food is cake, and no matter how fat I feel I will never turn down a slice, and will most likely go back for seconds.
2. I'm going to grad school for public policy in the fall, but fantasize about owning a vintage furniture shop, or becoming some sort of designer.

3. I will forever love dogs, but Nerms has turned me into a total cat person. Just look at that face!
4. At random times I'll panic that I haven't practiced the piano, even though I stopped playing over five years ago. I played for 16 years on my parent's Steinway baby grand which my grandpa bought for $500 somewhere in Arizona. It's worth like 70 times that now.

5. I once dressed up as Mozart for Halloween. My mom used to make the best costumes. Another good one was half boy half girl.

6. I can't wait to live alone so I have full reign over decorating the place. I know exactly what it will look like, from the antique claw foot tub I want to buy, to the vase for flowers I'll put on the coffee table.

7. There hasn't been a weekend in years that I haven't bought an article of clothing or some sort of object for my home. I don't go crazy spending money, the item can be a $3 vase at a thrift store, but I just love new things.

Ok, I'm going to tag just a few people whom I'd like to know more about. I don't want to pressure anyone into doing this though, so maybe there's no need to say 7 things, just anything you feel like sharing at the moment!

-Sarah from Favourito (though I think you might have been tagged recently)
-Karen C from Happy Cavalier
-Nanikaa from Nanikaa
